What We Collect

StashPad captures and stores the following data to provide our knowledge management service:

• URLs and article content from pages you visit while the extension is active
• Article text and metadata (title, author, publication date, excerpts)
• Your search queries within the StashPad interface
• Basic usage analytics (feature usage, error logs) to improve the product

How Your Data Is Stored

Local Storage (Default)

By default, all captured data is stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB. This data:

• Remains on your device and is not transmitted anywhere
• Is encrypted using your browser's built-in security
• Can be deleted at any time through the extension settings
• Is automatically cleaned up when you uninstall the extension

Cloud Sync (Pro Plan)

If you enable cloud sync with a Pro subscription:

• Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3
• Data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 on Google Cloud Platform
• Storage is in your selected region (US, EU, or Asia-Pacific)
• Access requires authentication through your StashPad account

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively for:

• Providing search functionality - enabling you to find information from your reading history
• Generating insights - creating summaries and connections between articles you've read
• Syncing across devices - keeping your knowledge base accessible on all your devices (Pro users)
• Improving the product - aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us enhance features

Your Rights & Controls

You have complete control over your data:

Local Data (All Users)

• View all captured data through the extension interface
• Delete individual articles or entire date ranges
• Exclude specific websites from future capture
• Export your data in standard formats (JSON, CSV)

Cloud Data (Pro Users)

• Delete specific articles or date ranges through the extension
• Request full account and data deletion via contact@stashpad.ai
• Download your complete data archive before deletion
• Change your data storage region at any time

Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as you want to use our service:

Local Storage

• Data persists until you manually delete it or uninstall the extension
• No automatic deletion or expiration
• 30-day history limit for free users

Cloud Storage

• Pro users have unlimited retention
• Account deletion requests are processed within 30 days
• Backup copies are purged within 90 days of deletion request

Policy Updates

When we update this privacy policy, we will:

• Update the "Last modified" date at the top of this page
• Notify Pro users via email if changes are significant
• Display an in-app notification about policy changes
• Maintain previous versions for reference

Continued use of StashPad after policy updates constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
